This retaining ring used in DSG DQ380, DQ381, and DQ500 transmissions ensures that the clutch pressure plate pack is properly fixed inside the transmission housing. It prevents axial forward–backward movement of the clutch, helping maintain correct clearance and preload values. This ensures the clutch system operates smoothly, evenly, and efficiently.

During pressure plate replacement or overhaul, the removed retaining ring is usually replaced with a new one to prevent loss of dimensional accuracy and elasticity. A worn or incorrectly selected ring can cause vibration, impact, clutch slippage, and premature pressure plate wear.
